The Strong-Drive® SDWS Timber SS Screw is a 7mm-diameter, Type 316 stainless steel, heavy-duty structural fastener suitable for marine and coastal applications where severe-corrosion resistance is a necessity. The SDWS Timber SS screw has a SawTooth point and flat washer head that make it the ideal choice for use in applications such as docks, wharfs, piers, boardwalks and ledgers where strength and severe-corrosion resistance are critical.

Designed to provide an easy-to-install, low-torque driving, high-strength, severe-corrosion resistant alternatives to through bolting, traditional lags, spikes and coach screws. The Strong-Drive SDWS Timber SS screw is a premium solution for heavy-duty structural applications. Type 316 stainless steel provides severe-corrosion resistance, making it suitable for exterior and preservative-treated timber applications.

  1. Fastener length is measured from the underside of the head to the point.
  2. Length of thread includes the point.
  3. Bending yield moment calculated from characteristic tensile strength and based on minor thread diameter.
  4. Tension and shear properties are based on 0.5 of the average load for screws tested in tension and shear, respectively. Shear strength is shear through the threads.

  1. Conditions without numbers in the matrix shall not be used.
  2. The main and side members shall have a characteristic density of 380 kg/m3 for SG6 and 450 kg/m3 for SG8.
  3. The tabulated characteristic shear loads and withdrawal are for normal duration of load.
  4. Screws shall be installed normal to the surface of the timber member.
  5. Minimum fastener penetration shall be equal to the screw length less the thickness of the wood side member.
  6. Tabulated characteristic values for withdrawal are in N/mm of thread length into the main member.

Edge distances, end distances, and spacing of screws shall be sufficient to prevent splitting of the timber or as required in this table, 
or when applicable as recommended by the structural composite timber manufacturer, whichever is more restrictive.

These fasteners possess a level of corrosion resistance that makes them suitable for use in some exterior and corrosive environments and with some preservative-treated timber.
For applications in higher-exposure applications, consider Type-300 series stainless-steel fasteners for superior corrosion resistance. Bit(s) included with every box of screws.
Pre-drilling and countersink may be necessary at ends, butt joints, and on applications where denser material is used. Follow board manufacturers recommendations where applicable.
